Day 8: Bear Ridge
Back to Day 7
Forward to Day 9
After taking the morning ferry back to the trail from VVR, we immediately started up a long, brutal section of switchbacks to Bear Ridge.
Fortunately, it was morning and the trail was shady, so it wasn't too hot.
We stopped for lunch along Bear Creek. Once again, the pictures really do not do it justice.
We stopped to camp just below 10,000 ft in the Rosemarie Meadow. 10,000 ft is the magic number above which you cannot have a campfire. There were many campsites in the area where we camped, and at least two other ones were occupied. In addition, the previous occupants of our campsite had left a garbage bag full of food hanging from a tree (an attempt at protecting it from bears, but besides the fact that it is against the rules to hang your food, they also did a lousy job of it). We have no idea why they left behind so much food either.
Final Tally:
12.2 miles
3200 ft up, 900 ft down
