Day 13: Pinchot Pass

Back to Day 12
Forward to Day 14

It was a cold night last night, mostly due to a persistent breeze off of the creek the entire night. We lit a campfire to warm ourselves up in the morning.

On the way up to Pinchot Pass

We had elevensies near Lake Marjorie

On top of Pinchot Pass

While on top of Pinchot Pass, we talked to a group of guys headed northbound that mentioned a group of llamas that was headed southbound like us. It certainly did explain the funny hoofprints that we had been seeing for 2 days. Later we caught up with them and saw them from a distance.

Butterflies!

Doe and fawn

The path down to the Road's End junction was plagued with many, many steps, going frequently up and down. But this waterfall was a nice diversion.

Just past the Road's End junction, this single-person suspension footbridge crossed the Wood's Creek. The bridge moved a lot as we walked on it, making us think of the infamous Tacoma Narrow Bridge.
We wanted to go a bit further in order to cut down on the next day's mileage, so we passed up campsites near the junction. Unfortunately, we didn't find another campsite for about 2.5 miles past the junction.

Final Tally:
14.6 miles
3200 ft up, 3600 ft down
3 does, 2 fawns
4 llamas
2 pikas*

* Joel called these animals kangaroo mice, but they are actually called pikas. They look like tailless mice, and are very, very cute. Unfortunately they are also crazy fast and I wasn't able to get a single picture of them.
