Day 6: Lake Virginia

Back to Day 5
Forward to Day 7

We started out the day by walking along a bluff; this is the view down into Cascade Valley.

Elevensies!

More bluff pictures
After the bluff, we hiked down to the creek from Duck Lake, and stopped briefly to filter water. It was here that the handle broke off of the water filter pump that we were using to purify water. It was still usable, but much more tedious and time consuming than before.

Purple Lake

Lake Virginia; sadly, these pictures really do not to it justice

Looking down into the Fish Creek Valley from the top of the switchbacks

Fish Creek
We were originally planning to camp near the bottom of the Fish Creek junction, but the bugs were bad and the campsites were not very good, so we started hiking up the switchbacks. We ended up hiking further than we intended to, and found a decent campsite with a campfire ring, although the mosquitos were still a problem.

Final Tally:
14.4 miles
2200 ft up, 1700 ft down
1 marmot
